2021 Olympics, Simone Biles, When To Push & When To Prioritize Mental Health

After 2020's toilet paper fiasco & Bernie Sanders memes...I was happy to see something that matters get a ton of media attention.

Like anything...with good comes the bad

But that's okay because it's spreading awareness that matters..understanding and insight will follow because of individuals who are brave enough to talk about the hard stuff and take a stand.

So It's Summer of August 2021 and we're at the Olympic Games in Tokyo

( a.k.a watching from our smart devices at home)

All the drama started when Simone Biles, a world renowned decorated female World Championship gymnast blew the worlds socks off when she removed herself from the all around gymnastics competition finals to prioritize her mental health.

There was a ton of backlash from press & social media threads, with comments like "That's not what it takes to be a champion" and "You let us down, should've pushed through to get the gold" ....which was very disheartening.

Prioritizing Your Mental health isn’t a cop out or an excuse. You have to know when to keep going & when to hit the breaks.

uckily Simone said  "NOT TODAY" and knew when to hit the breaks!

She had tons of supporters all over the world showed so much love and positivity for her decision to prioritize her well being.

The USA Gymnastics said in a statement on Wednesday. "We wholeheartedly support Simone's decision and applaud her bravery in prioritizing her well-being. Her courage shows, yet again, why she is a role model for so many."

I'm glad they were compassionate towards her because she is a role model;  but first and foremost she is human; something many people forget when they watch amazing athletes perform.

After everything was said and done, Simone returned to the competition earning a silver in team and a bronze medal in balance beam -but she gets a gold in my book..it's not about the prize it's about heart and she's given so much to the U.S team as well as the sport.

She was welcomed home with what appeared to be so much love and support from loved ones.

There were over one hundred supporters with signs with positive messages waiting to welcome her home from the Olympic games.

Check out this sweet pic from her IG page

I did an entire episode talking about this because this a conversation that should be continued.

In the podcast episode I talked about Mental health, Fitness, and Simone Biles for showing strength, love and compassion to put herself first and choose to prioritize her mental health over competing in the 2021 Olympic Finals and bringing home the gold.

PSA: Don’t come for me on my medal count okay! I may have added a few extra in the podcast episode.

What I’m seeing on the interwebs is 25 total World Championship medals, and 19 of them have been gold.

If you have an updated count.. let a girl know in the comments

But I mean after 10 gold medals…do we REALLY have to count..She's looks like a  SUPERHERO to me.

Bottom line...

It’s a priority that only you can CHOOSE for YOURSELF...DESPITE what anyone else thinks

We live in a world where talking about the hard stuff hasn’t always been accepted but that’s changing fast.
