What's best AM or PM Workouts?

Have you ever wondered what's best time of day to exercise?

If you've struggled trying to get into a workout routine; it might be time to get real about a few things because there is a lot to consider before you commit to a daily "anything".

Have you ever wondered what's best time of day to exercise?

If you've struggled trying to get into a workout routine; it might be time to get real about a few things because there is a lot to consider before you commit to a daily "anything".

Make it stand out

Truths? A lot of us are trying to squeeze that workout in anywhere we can because life is constantly happening and sometimes it's happening a little too much, a little too fast, with a heck of a lot of changes.

Or is that just me? lol

It feels like there's a billion things on your to do list, and sometimes  the workout is just another thing, so it gets crammed in anywhere or doesn't happen at the right time causing a whole other set of problems

Make it stand out

I totally get that.

Doing a workout at the wrong time can not only slow down your fitness results but it can have a big impact on the quality of your sleep, effect your mood, and raise your anxiety levels through the roof.

On the other hand, if you choose your workout time based on how you want to feel the game changes.

Believe it or not there are a few benefits of trying out a workout routine in the AM and PM and that looks different on everyone.

If you're looking to improve your mental and physical health you can change the game with just a few simple hacks.

Overcoming Your Fears & Becoming Confident With Fitness & Community

If you’re struggling with where you are today ( mentally, physically, emotionally)

and you want to change that it's time to take your power back.

If you’re struggling with where you are today ( mentally, physically, emotionally)

and you want to change that it's time to take your power back.

We give our power away to people, situations, and various things in our lives.

The best way to overcome your fears, regain your confidence, and feel unstoppable is to find something to empower you & let that spread like a wildfire.

Every day won't be perfect, but along the way you'll gain a tool that can become your secret weapon on the worst of days.

I have a few tips that you can use right now for free.

1. Join a Fitness Community

Find your people and connect with like minded people who are doing things that inspire you to become the best version of yourself.  If you're struggling with your mental health, developing stronger interpersonal relationships can help so much more then just your six pack & pull up game. 'just saying' being surrounded by love, support, and encouragement may be just what you need.

Recently I was invited to lead a workout and speak to a group of amazing women at an event called "Get Up And Glow", hosted by Jessica Zermeno and Ashley Bernett and I was so excited as soon as I arrived..

FEAR was completely taking over.

I was sitting in my car letting my worried brain take over, and silly thoughts saying "Who are you to lead this group workout?" and "How are YOU going to inspire these women?"

After a few deep breaths, a car dance party and some Soul CBD... read this message and I took my power back.

This is when your good practices come into play in real life situations.

I'm sharing this to remind you that we ALL have fears and anxieties.

We ALL have times where we don't feel confident.

At the event I met so many beautiful women with a fire inside them to find their power and inner glow & it was so contagious, it inspired me to create this post sharing some takeaways & tips for anyone struggling to overcome fear so that they can create the life they want!

One of the girls shared how she'd come to the event alone and traveled by train to get there... it reminded me of a time when I was in her shoes; taking a train alone to this women's business seminar called "Pays To Be Brave" hosted by Angie Lee back in 2019.

2. You have to be okay with being uncomfortable

In 2019 I went to a women's business seminar called "Pays to be brave" hosted by Angie Lee. I didn't have anyone to go with me to that event, I didn't have a reliable vehicle to get me to the event, so I took a train and made it happen.

I can't imagine what would've happened if i hadn't.

Putting myself in a room surrounded by women I didn't know was one of the best decision's I made that year.

Sometimes you're one scary decision away from the best thing that's happened to you in a long time, but you'll never know unless you put yourself out there.

Being vulnerable is scary but it has its perks in the long run.

3. Use your voice -

Create a power statement; "I am" statements and mantras will be your Best friend when you need a confidence boost.

This is like one of those fancy French scarves you can tie more then a few ways

I gave examples in the podcast episode I shared on this; listen HERE.

Your power statement can change based on how you're feeling and what your current goals are.

Create your statement & commit to saying it at least 5x a day.

Try morning power statements looking in the mirror, those are my favorite!

This can work however you want it to. Your voice, your body, your goals, your statement.

In the podcast episode, I'm teaching you how to incorporate your voice during your workout to keep you going and empower you through fitness.

Make sure to listen to the episode to nail this & get the best results.

If you want to take this a step further in reaching your goals; try a 7 Day Challenge with me.

Take Action, if you want to see a change you have to make a change.

Pick 1 thing from the episode. Make it simple & Do it everyday for a week.

Accountability is Everything  Send A Voice Message or Tag me on Instagram @irenexofitness made me do it, I want to clap for you and help you stay accountable to your big scary HARDS!

2021 Olympics, Simone Biles, When To Push & When To Prioritize Mental Health

After 2020's toilet paper fiasco & Bernie Sanders memes...I was happy to see something that matters get a ton of media attention.

After 2020's toilet paper fiasco & Bernie Sanders memes...I was happy to see something that matters get a ton of media attention.

Like anything...with good comes the bad

But that's okay because it's spreading awareness that matters..understanding and insight will follow because of individuals who are brave enough to talk about the hard stuff and take a stand.

So It's Summer of August 2021 and we're at the Olympic Games in Tokyo

( a.k.a watching from our smart devices at home)

All the drama started when Simone Biles, a world renowned decorated female World Championship gymnast blew the worlds socks off when she removed herself from the all around gymnastics competition finals to prioritize her mental health.

There was a ton of backlash from press & social media threads, with comments like "That's not what it takes to be a champion" and "You let us down, should've pushed through to get the gold" ....which was very disheartening.

Prioritizing Your Mental health isn’t a cop out or an excuse. You have to know when to keep going & when to hit the breaks.

uckily Simone said  "NOT TODAY" and knew when to hit the breaks!

She had tons of supporters all over the world showed so much love and positivity for her decision to prioritize her well being.

The USA Gymnastics said in a statement on Wednesday. "We wholeheartedly support Simone's decision and applaud her bravery in prioritizing her well-being. Her courage shows, yet again, why she is a role model for so many."

I'm glad they were compassionate towards her because she is a role model;  but first and foremost she is human; something many people forget when they watch amazing athletes perform.

After everything was said and done, Simone returned to the competition earning a silver in team and a bronze medal in balance beam -but she gets a gold in my book..it's not about the prize it's about heart and she's given so much to the U.S team as well as the sport.

She was welcomed home with what appeared to be so much love and support from loved ones.

There were over one hundred supporters with signs with positive messages waiting to welcome her home from the Olympic games.

Check out this sweet pic from her IG page

I did an entire episode talking about this because this a conversation that should be continued.

In the podcast episode I talked about Mental health, Fitness, and Simone Biles for showing strength, love and compassion to put herself first and choose to prioritize her mental health over competing in the 2021 Olympic Finals and bringing home the gold.

PSA: Don’t come for me on my medal count okay! I may have added a few extra in the podcast episode.

What I’m seeing on the interwebs is 25 total World Championship medals, and 19 of them have been gold.

If you have an updated count.. let a girl know in the comments

But I mean after 10 gold medals…do we REALLY have to count..She's looks like a  SUPERHERO to me.

Bottom line...

It’s a priority that only you can CHOOSE for YOURSELF...DESPITE what anyone else thinks

We live in a world where talking about the hard stuff hasn’t always been accepted but that’s changing fast.

Stay Close to People Who Feel Like Sunlight ☀️

You know those days you just need a stay cation with someone who you can

chill with and talk about life?

No elaborate plans.. just good company and time to kill together..

That's how I spent this past Saturday and it's exactly what I needed after a long week of never ending news articles, and gearing up to head into a busy Fall season.

Sharing tapas is always a good idea on a active rest day!

Good food is a good mood.. get in my belly!

Gotta have one day in the week where you have a fun free meal :)

(Pictured)

Shrimp Ceviche

Waffle & Fruit

Tofu Scramble & Sourdough

We did some dolphin watching, and it's amazing how many dolphins were visible. We saw groups of 3-4 several times..I was too busy watching to capture it.

Usually because your phone is glued to your face and you miss it LOL

It’s amazing how much we take little things for granted; like sunshine and good times..being present with each other.

Later, I came across this blog on Psychology Today.

It talked about this study that started during the Great Depression that studies adults and what promotes happiness, mental health, and well being.

From the article:

“IQ, genes, economic success, and fame don’t promote mental and physical health, happiness, and well-being.  Relationships—specifically high-quality relationships—do”

To get all scientific and nerdy with ya 👇🏾

‘It’s the power of emotion contagion, the neurobiological “upward spiral” that surges into our brains and bodies when we are engaged in authentic relationships with people whose presence feels like sunlight.’

The good vibes you get when you spend time with your real ones..it's good for your soul on a lot of levels.

Sometimes it feels like we need to be surrounded by many friends, have all the material things, and what not to be happy; but it's much simpler to feel authentic happiness and be at peace within your body.

"We need high-quality relationships for our health and well-being just like we need food and water." -Pyshcology Today

When it comes to this I believe quality over quantity is best.

There are plenty of ways you can hack your happiness.

Use this chart I created for you to if you want to try it out for yourself.

If you want to take this a little further I've got a little challenge for you. CLICK HERE to access it.
Do something that makes your soul happy today <3 xoxo Irene

DIY: Homemade Cashew Milk Recipe

Something I've been craving these chilly Fall days is a glass of refreshing nut milk Not to exaggerate or anything but this is it..

omething I've been craving these chilly Fall days is a glass of refreshing nut milk

Not to exaggerate or anything but this is it..

Try this DIY homemade cashew nut milk recipe and have yourself a creamy delicious dairy-free drink in just a few minutes

Before we get to the milk....

Just throwing this out there..one size never fit all

In short if you wanna stick to the cows...do you boo

A part of becoming more well is kind of like being your own detective because you're the only one who can uncover what your body needs, likes, and doesn't like.

Over the years I've learned how to listen to my body & I found out what worked / and what tore my stomach up

...milk being one of them

I don’t know about you but no one told me I was lactose intolerant, and like most people I grew up with dairy milk in my froot loops

Now saying that...I cringe at the thought of drinking dairy milk

This started since I was old enough to talk

I can’t stand the smell, taste, and its always made me gag

Over the years I would try to force it down and I'd end up feeling sick🤢

I still remember sitting at the kitchen table to finish my meal, staring into a glass of milk wondering why I had to drink it to be strong if it made me feel so bad.

long story short..I didn't drink it

..if this has happened to you at any age take it as a message

(one you don't wanna ignore)

If you're looking for a dairy alternative, definitely try a plant based milk

Almond milk was my first trial with nut milk.. and that didn’t work out to well😅

My body sent me little messages with breakouts that showed up 1-2 days later; but i ignored the messages until one day I was stuffing a handful of almonds down.

I found out the hard way that almonds and me don't mix

I’m loving cashews this season so I made this cashew milk recipe this morning and you have to try it!

If you're new to the healthy life.. just know it adds up 💰

I wish I could total the amount of money I spent on plant based milk over the years..imagine if I'd invested that in some stocks or crypto 🤣

Luckily all you need is a few ingredients and you can DIY  with this simple cashew nut milk recipe

No more running to the grocery store & you can use it for the base of a seasonal latte & more!

One of my dreams is to be able to be self sustainable “ONE DAY”.. so I guess one DIY at a time until then!

DIY CASHEW MILK 🥛

Ingredients:

4 cups non salted cashews
4 cups of water
1-2 T raw honey or agave
1 T vanilla extract (optional)
Sprinkle of ground cinnamon
Pinch of Himalayan salt

This is so simple a 4 year old can do it!

1. Soak your cashews overnight ( if you're in a rush for some milk 3-4 hours will do)

This step is important. Rinse thoroughly until the water is clear.

2. Start blending with half the amount of water if your blender isn't the strongest. Once you get it smoother add the rest.

3. This is the fun part because you can add what you'd like and its nice to know what's going in your body. I went for raw honey, cinnamon, and a little vanilla.

Flu Season Hack: Add Himalayan pink salt for a boost in electrolytes. This a great addition because it will balance your body's natural PH. Sometimes we get a little afraid of salt, but your body needs it.

(If you struggle with Hypertension or Kidney Disease -- consult your doctor before increasing your salt intake)

Source: Health Magazine "Prevention".

4. Once you're happy with the consistency, strain out any lumps and clumps & voila homemade cashew nut milk.

Did I mention if you don't get enough magnesium in your diet, cashews are an excellent source of magnesium!

This recipe makes a quart of cashew milk, it will last about 3-4 days sealed tightly in he refrigerator!

Have fun with this recipe and make it your own! This taste so yummy steamed and frothed as well as a cold seasonal beverage with some pumpkin and nutmeg spices on top!

Happy Sipp'n & Stay Well

Train Smarter And Do A Dynamic Warm Up Before Your Workout

This may come as a shocking wake up call or an annoying reminder but it is one of the most overlooked aspects of fitness routines...and it's one of the reasons you may get crappy fitness results

This may come as a shocking wake up call or an annoying reminder but it is one of the most overlooked aspects of fitness routines...and it's one of the reasons you may get crappy fitness results

As a Fitness Trainer I cringe when a client tells me, "I didn't do the warm up"

There are so many reasons this is a BIG HUGE NO..

Just to name a couple of things : Injuries and improper engagement of muscles are reasons enough to start spending more time on the "pre work".

If you have no idea where to start in the warm up department..KEEP READING

I shared a ton of insight on this in the latest episode of "Burpees For Breakfast Podcast"

Episode 11 - Stop Making These Common Mistakes In Your Fitness Routine PT.1

Time for your first lesson.....Dynamic Warm Up

What is it?

Body Weight Movement, Isolation's, ROM ( Range Of Motion), Flexibility...That's where you start

Why Do it?

To prepare your body for the work about to go down. This means getting your muscles and joints ready for the impact of the workout.

But it doesn't stop there... another underrated aspect of warming up is the mental activation that happens while you increase in physical movement and circulate more blood floow to the brain.

As someone who has poor circulation, I can tell you what a difference I feel when I'm cold vs hanging upside down from the a silk fabric.

IYKYK - Where are my aerialists out there?

If you hang out with me in Instagram land, you probably know what I'm talking about.. if not here's a visual

If you can't relate, you don't recall feeling of your blood flowing in your last warm up, or your analytical brain needs to get nerdy with some scientific deets.. i got you

In the article "Dynamic Warm Up – Why (and How) Fitness, Strength, and Power Athletes Should Do Them" -Mike Dewar

It articulates a few benefits of doing dynamic warm up exercises before your workout

# 1 Enhance Blood Flow to Muscle Tissues

When we exercise, blood flow is shunted from the intestines and stomach and pumped towards the working muscles, lungs, heart, and brain to enhance muscular performance. By adding a dynamic warm-up you can ensure that oxygen-rich blood is being delivered to your muscles at the onset of training.

# 2 Stimulate Nervous System

Improved blood flow, mind-muscle connections, and motor patterning all can occur during and following a dynamic warm-up. A dynamic warm-up helps to ensure that your body and mind is fully prepared for the training session to come.

For multiple reasons, your head needs to be in the game and if your head isn't in it, the battle is more then lost on multiple fronts; and your fitness results will suffer. Not to mention the desire to stick with it.

Anyways, so what about "The How"

You might be thinking, "I barely have enough time as it is..I don't have time for all that"

You can do a 10 minute warm up session prior to your workout & it will ensure you get the most from the exercises in your workout routine.

Some ideas for you:

After a few stretches and foam rolling; try a light aerobic warm up with your body weight to wake up stiff muscles and joints. It doesn't have to be long. Anywhere between 10-20 minutes works!

I created this LOW IMPACT & KNEE FRIENDLY STEPS ROUTINE In our online fitness community on YouTube & it's perfect for a quick warm up; there are several steps workouts you can try if you need something fun to get you going...your goal is to start breaking a sweat!!!

One of these days I'll create an epic total body dynamic warm up routine you can follow along to in our YouTube community :)

With that being said I also like to give love to fitness trainers and content creators crushing it; so here is an excellent video to start with.

Where Have I Been? Word on the street is you went ghost...

Every now and then I run into people from undergrad.. they ask, “what happened to your psych and business degree?” you just disappeared.. and I see you on Instagram working out and talking about breathwork sometimes..

Every now and then I run into people from Community College.. they ask, “what happened to your psych and business degree?” you just disappeared.. and I see you on Instagram working out and talking about breathwork sometimes..

"Where have you been?..What have you been up to?"..How's life?

TRUTH? that's a loaded question..

I can tell you I was on the road to being a double major. The goal was a PHD and a career in counseling/psychotherapy. Maybe work for a special team studying human behavior like on those cool shows...

I was going to have my own practice --

I was determined to achieve it.

As a kid I knew I’d be a therapist,  I’d help people. I had dreams of  listening to people talk to me about their life and problems.

It was giving Jamie Lee Curtis in Freaky Friday.. with all the pagers, important business woman, but also had a family type vibes

Of course I’d also own a dance studio that I'd head to after work💃

Becoming a fitness trainer just happened. it's like it was a part of a plan meant for me, and it was just waiting for me to show up.

I always loved movement, i grew up with it..I started dancing when i was 2 years old.

I played sports.. being active is second nature to me.

but i didn't plan on being a fitness trainer...

I was following the roadmap to my goals when I started daydreaming in my psychology classes; writing down plans and dreams of things I wanted to do..

and I actually enjoyed those classes until my focus and energy went elsewhere.

One day everything changed and I wasn’t the same since.

Fast forward to transfer time. I got into a handful of schools but not the  school I wanted to go to.

Suddenly the plan felt so unaligned..imagine the little version of me so torn on what to do.

Inside I knew something else was calling for me.. something I couldn’t see.. but I could feel.

I had to honor my intuition. So, I took a year off to give myself more time.

I continued to pursue my passions, teach fitness and dance, be an entrepreneur.. create the life I wanted.

I kept my acceptance letters on my desk, and every morning 👀 I told myself, “You can always go back when/ if you choose to.”

Fast forward to 2019 - I was at a women's business seminar.

This is the day Breathwork came into my life.

Imagine this.

tears running down my face, listening to Celine Dion and some lady telling us to continue to breathe, surrounded by hundreds of strangers (since i went alone).

It was beautiful, I never experienced anything like it.

It was Soooo NOT ME to be crying like that.. and in Public.

Not because I’m too cool to be VULNERABLE

Somewhere along the way I started holding everything in

I always had movement as a release

But somewhere along the way it became a bandaid

it wasn't until 2020 when the world changed and I like many others, was forced to slow down and feel.

I was doing group Breathwork sessions online and it helped me to connect with parts of myself I'd long forgotten.

i tapped into so many subconscious memories and within them were pockets full of pain I'd pushed down so far, I didn't realize they were affecting me.

BREATH WORKS because it’s already inside of you, it's not a one stop shop, you don't become "fixed" or "cured" after one session.

Just like you don't get the results after one workout.. it doesn't work that way.

When I learned how to intentionally breathe…

A sort of unraveling happened

Once again, I found myself in the middle of carrying out my plans and God stepped into my life

"You're going to do this work, you'll travel to different places and teach people how to breathe."

That wasn't a plan or idea i had for myself - but I knew i had to be obedient to this inner knowing

It’s 2023, I’m a Fitness trainer, I run a mobile company bringing mindfulness + movement to kids in schools. I’m a Trauma Informed Breathwork Facilitator, i work with people of all ages from kids to adults, sports teams, high school students, etc—- and I’m open to what’s next on the path.

I didn’t see breathwork as being a part of my journey but it’s helped me in so many ways.

I’m so excited to share this with whoever needs it

If we're being honest, collectively we have known loss, grief, pain, stress, anxiety, sleepless nights— experienced fear + uncertainty in today's world.

Some of us more then others

Some of us have been through the darkest of things but walk around with a smile on our face

🙋🏾‍♀️I was one of those people just powering through pain and trauma

Now I choose to acknowledge the things I've experienced on my journey and embrace the strength I've gained from those experiences.

Breathwork, Movement + Mindful Living brings me so much peace 💜 I'm so grateful that I can help others through this work even though it wasn't my plan.

I don't know that I won't decide to continue to pursue a degree in Psychology like i planned so many years ago, for now I'm living in my purpose and I'm honored to be able to help people every day that I wake up.

Truth be told, people come up to me and tell me about their life, problems, and a whole lot more...without the degree, the office, the practice.

I'm not knocking education.just saying..because it happens regularly --- and i don't have the salary or letters behind my name..and maybe that's okay.

I don't know what the future holds, but I'm open to the possibilities and I don't regret my decision because I wouldn't be the person I am today without the experience life gave me on my unplanned detour.

If the plans change, we'll see what happens next.
